Spotlight on Clarins Hydra-Essentiel range

We all know that lifestyle and climate can have an effect on our skin, but what you may not know is that, according to Clarins, the unexpected changes in temperature that we encounter on a daily basis can also have a marked influence.

These “thermal shocks” can happen up to 17 times a day, Clarins says. Think about it and this makes sense. We go indoors to outdoors several times a day, we travel on the train or buses, we spend time in air-conditioned shops. Our skin goes through a lot so it is no wonder that it can easily become dehydrated.

The new Clarins Hydra-Essentiel range has been formulated with the organic leaf of life, a plant native to Madagascar. Clarins found that this leaf was able to retain water and remain hydrated despite being exposed to dramatic changes in humidity and temperatures to which the island is subjected.

Clarins discovered that the plant manages to thrive, thanks to sponge molecules which retain water. This was the inspiration to develop the new range.

Leaf of life extract, says Clarins helps boost the skin’s production of its own sponge molecules ensuring that it minimise water loss so it stay hydrated in all conditions.

And it is not just about keeping your skin hydrated, if you live in a big city you are going to encounter pollution. Day after day your skin is assaulted by exhaust fumes and the like which can have a detrimental effect on your skin. So the Hydra-Essentiel line contains an anti-pollution complex to protect from the onslaught.

As everybody’s skin has different needs, Clarins has launched a variety of textures which are suitable for your requirements.

If your skin is particularly dry from the cold weather or if indeed you have been in a hot climate which has taken its toll on your complexion, try the Bi-phase Serum (£44). It instantly plumped up my skin making it look healthy. Don’t forget to put a sunscreen on top. I use Clarins UV Plus (£32). Not only does it protect against the sun, which can age the skin, it also guards against pollution.

For every day, try the Silky Cream SPF 15 (£36). If you are spending a lot of time in the sun put a SPF 50 on top to ensure that you are properly protected.

Those with a combination skin can say goodbye to shine with the refreshing Cooling Gel (£36). The Milky Lotion SPF 15 is also ideal for combination skins.

A lovely range from Clarins!
